Developed by a team of professional artistsand focus groups of physicians, this multimedia, theatrical stage reading explores the ways that individual and system stressors (gender bias and expectations, mental health stigma, toxic/unsupportive work environments) can affect wellness and foster suicide ideation among health professionals. The story followsa prominent general surgeon and his chief resident as they attempt to navigate a key week of familiar challenges related to their professional and personal life. Physician partners, spouses, family members are invited to attend and are included as characters in the storytelling. The talk-back, facilitated by Charles Samenow, MD, MPH, Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, The George Washington University, and playwright Jeffrey Steiger, is focused on a deeper understanding of the issues and strategies for support and change. Feedback about the production will be invited at the end of the talk-back.
